Anthills

Warts are small bumps on the skin caused by various types of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They appear at all ages and are transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. They are benign lesions and generally painless unless injured.

Common warts appear anywhere on the body, but are most common on the fingers, elbows, and knees. Smooth warts are most common on the face. They usually appear in clusters, most often in children and adolescents. Warts on the palms of the hands and especially the soles of the feet are the most painful because they are located at pressure points. Warts around the nails appear as rough and raised skin that sometimes affects the smooth growth of the nail. They are among the most difficult to treat due to their location.

The options we have for treating ants are:

  • Topical preparations based on salicylic acid, which dissolves the keratin surrounding the wart
  • Cryotherapy, which destroys the wart by freezing it with liquid nitrogen, is most suitable for lesions on the palms and soles.
  • Diathermocoagulation where the lesion is destroyed through cauterization with electric current
  • The CO2 Laser, which is the most suitable method, due to its high efficiency and high precision.

At Athens Dermatology we apply all of the above treatments for warts. Visit us and our dermatologists will decide which treatment is most suitable for you.
