Clues

Photoaging skin loses its youthful appearance early. Solar radiation (UV) damages our skin by several mechanisms. While UVB is responsible for sunburn, UVA penetrates deeper layers and destroys collagen. The consequence is the excessive production of pathological elastin, which in turn leads to pathological skin reconstruction mechanisms. The result is the creation of wrinkles and the loss of elasticity. The Fractional CO2 Laser reverses the effects of photoaging by rebuilding collagen and replacing UV-damaged tissue with new and healthy tissue.

What is Fractional CO2 Laser

Fractional Laser CO2 is an invasive Laser that improves skin tone and texture, smoothes fine wrinkles, reverses photoaging, smoothes acne scars, reduces facial oiliness, gives firmness and a youthful appearance to aging skin.

Method

Fractional Laser CO2 remains the most effective of the laser technologies in dealing with aging, photoaging of the face, especially when applied at high energies. It is also an important weapon against scars (eg acne scars). It improves skin tone and texture, softens fine wrinkles, smoothes scars, reduces facial oiliness, gives firmness and a youthful appearance to aged skin. It can also be applied to the neck/décolleté.

The Fractional Laser CO2 causes immediate impressive reconstruction in the skin, but also in the deeper layers of the skin, where it stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen. The Fractional CO2 Laser sublimates the skin layers in small bundles (appearing as small dots on the skin), leaving areas of intact skin in between.

This method reduces the risk of complications and dramatically reduces healing time. For superficial discolorations from the sun, we choose a more superficial treatment, while when we want to improve wrinkles or acne scars, we choose a deep treatment. At Athens Dermatology, we use Fractional Laser CO2 having gained extensive experience in skin regeneration.

The process of collagenogenesis becomes evident after 3 to 6 months as tightening and increasing the elasticity of the skin. For superficial discolorations from the sun, we choose a more superficial treatment, while when we want to improve wrinkles or acne scars, we choose a deep treatment.

Results

Wrinkles and especially fine facial lines around the mouth and eyes respond extremely well to Fractional CO2 Laser treatment. The Laser reaches the deepest layers of the skin and stimulates the production of collagen which fills the wrinkles and smoothes their appearance. At the same time, it removes the surface layers of the skin and causes its renewal.

Usually 3 sessions are required at 4 week intervals. However, even from the first session, the improvement of fine wrinkles is visible. The process of collagen formation peaks after 3 to 6 months and you see tightening and increased elasticity of the skin.

The results of Fractional Laser CO2 are better than any other medical technique today.

Application

The treatment can be done by applying anesthetic cream 1 hour before and lasts around 45'. Immediately after the treatment the face is red.

Recovery

After the treatment there may be a burning sensation which subsides very quickly. . Ice is applied to prevent swelling. In the next 2-3 days there may be some swelling, which subsides or the skin is red, while soon a imperceptible crust begins to form on the microlesion (dot) which falls off in about 7-8 days. For some weeks after the treatment it is necessary to use sunscreen with a protection index of SPF 50. The ideal time for the treatment is autumn-winter.
