BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments improve wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the eyes (crow's feet), smoker's and neck wrinkles, etc. Their use is safe and can be combined with other injectable treatments, such as hyaluronic acid and Lasers.
How long do the results last?
In-office treatment with BOTOX® and Dysport® takes just a few minutes. Results are visible in 2-5 days and reach the desired level in 10-14 days. In 2-3 months the effect of the treatment begins to subside and, if desired, the treatment can be repeated, usually in 6 months.
Is there a systemic risk from the use of botulinum toxin?
No. The risk of systemic absorption only exists after consuming large amounts of botulinum toxin, mainly by eating contaminated food. The doses we use in cosmetic dermatology for fight of wrinkles, represent less than 2% of the maximum permissible human dose, creating a very large safety margin when using BOTOX® and Dysport®.
What are the side effects of BOTOX® and Dysport®?
BOTOX® has been used since 1980 to treat two facial conditions, strabismus and blepharospasm. It was first used to treat forehead wrinkles in 1989. Dysport® has been used in Europe for many years with an excellent safety profile and was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009.
Side effects from the use of BOTOX® and Dysport® are minimal when the treatment is performed correctly by a trained dermatologist. Most commonly, the patient feels a slight local discomfort during the injection, while there is a very small possibility of ecchymosis (bruising). There are no reports of permanent side effects from the use of BOTOX® and Dysport® for the treatment of wrinkles.
What care is required after treatment?
Αμέσως μετά τη θεραπεία μπορεί να παρατηρηθεί μικρή ερυθρότητα στα σημεία της ένεσης που υποχωρεί σε λίγες ώρες. Οι εκχυμώσεις (μελανιές) που ίσως παραμείνουν για λίγες μέρες είναι σπάνιες. Ενθαρρύνουμε τους ασθενείς μας να χρησιμοποιούν τους μυς περισσότερο την πρώτη ώρα μετά τη θεραπεία ώστε να μεγιστοποιηθεί το θεραπευτικό αποτέλεσμα των BOTOX® και Dysport®. Δεν πρέπει για τις πρώτες 4 ώρες μετά τη θεραπεία να κάνουν μασάζ, γυμναστική, να σκύψουν ή να ξαπλώσουν.
